FUTURE READY? ACTIONABLE STRATEGIES FOR SKILLS, JOBS, AND CAREERS IN THE NEW WORLD OF WORK.
By now, everyone has heard of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and how work is fundamentally changing. Some companies have begun incorporating technology, automation, and artificial intelligence into routine job tasks. As this increases over the next few years, many jobs will become unrecognizable or redundant. Ultimately though, new jobs will be invented and most jobs are going to evolve to include new skills and responsibilities. The problem? More than 70% of companies still rely on old thinking and use work methods and processes for a world that no longer exists. This means everyone needs to be proactive to become future ready.
So, what should organizations be doing differently? During this major transformation, people at all levels need to reimagine work and think about new kinds of jobs and careers. And companies need to create environments and experiences that will support this new reality. We all need actionable strategies for the new dynamics of work.
Kelly Palmer, Chief Learning Officer of Degreed and co-author of the expertise Economy, has led “future ready” strategies not only as a Chief Learning Officer (CLO) but also as an advisor to many global organizations. This session will describe some of these strategies and provide a framework for the new work experience that will help both companies and individuals not only survive but thrive.
Kelly will describe how you can put actionable plans in place to reimagine work, redefine jobs and careers, and replace old methods and thinking so that you and your workforce stay agile and competitive. She will also show you how to use data to identify key skills most important for the workforce of the future, how you can use that data for upskilling strategies, and finally how you can to connect people to new opportunities as work evolves.

More about venue
The Gem and Century Theaters are both housed in a complex originally built as a clubhouse for the Twentieth Century Club, a women’s social club. Built in 1902 of red brick and trimmed with white sandstone, the building is now the Century Theatre. The first floor was originally a dining room, with a 400-seat auditorium on the second floor. The theater showcased an ornately painted ceiling, plush carpet, and iconic 1920s lighting.
In 1997, the Gem/Century Building was lifted from its former foundation and moved five blocks to its new home at Madison and Brush streets. With plans for a new baseball stadium for the Detroit Tigers, the Gem and Century buildings had to move, or be destroyed. Weighing at more than five million pounds, the move found its place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the heaviest building ever relocated on tires. On September 9, 1998, the Gem Theatre reopened following its restoration. The Century building reopened the same year as the Century Theatre, which now holds a 200-seat theater, as well as banquet facilities and a restaurant. The old YWCA building previously located at the site was demolished, yet many pieces were saved and incorporated into the new Gem/Century building.
